Well, it’s that time of year again! Time to pull out the bin of Christmas books and wrap them up and put them out on the end table (the scratched end table because KIDS) ……….time for our Christmas Book Advent!
This is in no way something I invented, but it is a tradition that my family has grown to treasure over the past 5 years. While it may seem a noble intention to have a family story time every night 365 days of the year, I fully admit that this does NOT happen anymore with my 12, 10 and 6 year old. There is nightly reading for sure, but not cuddled together in the living room! But for the first 24 days of December, there IS! Cuddled under the lights of the Christmas tree, we unwrap one book each night and I read it aloud. And yes, there is an order as to who picks the book each night. Of course there are “nights” where we have to read in the afternoon due to late concerts and such, but this is a faithful ritual. If mom’s not home, dad reads. It is of the highest priority! Oh, and for those who have asked ~ no, I do not have my Christmas books out all year long. They live with the Christmas decorations which means it is MUCH easier to round them up to wrap every year at Thanksgiving!
I am not sharing all of the books here now, but stay tuned to my picture-book-dedicated Instagram account @littleloudlibrary in December for the nightly titles ~ I can’t wait to share them with you!
As a teaser, though, check out these holiday picture book titles that HMH Kids sent to me for review ~ these ones are wrapped in a special wrapping paper because they are the newest additions to our collection! I’ll be reviewing them in my December Picture Book Round Up, so stay tuned for that as well!
